Citroen and SAIPA, the Iranian carmaker have signed a contract for the production of Citroën Xantia in the SAIPA factories in Iran for the Iranian car market, making SAIPA part of Citroen's strategy for international development in central Asia.
Saipa, one of Iran's two main car makers, presently assembles the older Citroen Xantia, as well as models from South Korea's Kia motors and Japan's Nissan.

In order to make space for planned increase in production and to streamline their operation, Saipa have shifted production of Nissan pick-ups to Zamyad, a fully owned affiliated company.
As per a contract signed between the two companies, the Saipa company of Iran was scheduled to manufacture about 19,800 automobiles of the same model over 18 months.
