Earlier Toyotas were designed to have the exhaust routed down the driver side of the vehicle.
To Top Installation Off Road Solutions offers full installation service for this conversion.
The information needed by ORS at time of order is: Donor vehicle - VIN number, production date, model, 4WD or 2WD, Transmission type.
Either way, the original wiring in your older Toyota will not have to be torn apart or changed in order to accommodate this new engine.
This kit is similar to the full kit but a few items were removed that can be re-used from the original vehicle or may not need replacement.
When using the Downey system, exhaust will need to be routed down both sides of the bell housing to a custom crossover pipe underneath the vehicle.
Besides, we don't need to stink up our outdoor playground any more than necessary, do we? Back To Top Hood Clearance Another concern we have found is that this engine is physically too tall to fit under the hood of your vehicle without modifications.
Off Road Solutions - Technical Articles - 3.4L Conversion Kit - Automatic Transmission
If the conversion is being performed on a 4WD vehicle, it will be necessary to use a 4WD 3.
Unfortunately, there is not a conversion that can be done properly only using the parts in the donor and recipient vehicles.
In comparison, we have found this to be one of the most economical and simplest conversions that can be done in an older Toyota.
5VZ-FE longblock- new, remanufactured, or used Both exhaust manifolds and crossover pipe (unless using a header system) Intake manifold Intake plenum with throttle body All items on motor related to fuel injection such as injectors, fuel rail, vsv's, sensors, throttle body, etc.
Once the headers or factory manifolds are in place, a custom exhaust will need to be built on your vehicle.
Having the proper information is the only way for Off Road Solutions to ensure that the provided parts will function properly.
We also manufacture parts that can be used to put this engine into virtually anything.
Unfortunately, the electronic EFI components from your older Toyota 3VZ or 22R will be useless in this swap.
4L came from a Tacoma, 4Runner, or Tundra, you will have to swap out your oil pan to fit this engine into your older Toyota.
4L conversion is being performed on a 4WD vehicle, the donor vehicle will also need to be a 4WD.
Don't forget- one huge advantage is the factor" of swapping in a late model Toyota motor! Although the 5VZ-FE has been around for years it has many versions varying by model and year.
This the exhaust on the proper side of an older Toyota, and keeps the undercarriage free of any crossover exhaust pipes.
If the donor vehicle had 2 catalytic converters, 2 converters need to be installed in order to satisfy the ECU's emission controls.
4L A340's have the front drive output on the driver side, opposite of all '95 and earlier Toyota 4x4's.
This harness is the largest harness in the vehicle and carries the majority of the entire vehicle's circuits.
Properly matching parts is also necessary for Off Road Solutions to provide conversion kits and wiring harnesses that function properly.
Many of these parts cannot be found on the donor or recipient vehicle, but are necessary to perform the swap.
Anybody who's into Toyotas will know the represents electronic fuel injection.

We make sure that every hose, wire, and component is properly installed to prevent damage and provide a clean look, like Toyota does.
Here are the parts included in the Basic Kit: Conversion wiring harness Transmission to transfer case adapter Upper radiator hose Lower radiator hose Heater hoses High pressure power steering hose High pressure fuel hose Battery relocation tray Oil pump housing plug Tap for housing An extremely helpful set of instructions It is the sole responsibility of the customer to provide Off Road Solutions with the necessary information from the donor and recipient vehicles.
The engine wiring harness and ECU are easy to install in another vehicle when performing this swap, but the real challenge comes about when it's time to take care of that last 40%.
These parts are NOT included in our kit and will need to be provided by the customer from a 5VZ-FE equipped vehicle.
This conversion is great for those wanting something different, those who love their older Toyota, and those in search of.
Recipient vehicle - VIN number, production date, model, 4WD or 2WD, original engine type, suspension setup, ABS or no, transmission type.
This swap is for those who want something unique, those looking for a challenge, those who won't let go of their older Toyota, those who have too much into their older Toyota anyway, those who just love the factor," or all of the above! Thank you for taking the time to check out our article.
Toyota made changes to the electronics, sensors, and wiring configurations every year and to every model within each year.
It can be cheaper to sell the older Toyota and purchase a newer Toyota with a factory 3.
It is equipped with a smooth Toyota multi-port fuel injection system using a distributor-less ignition system and OBDII diagnostics.
OEM hardware Oil pressure sending unit (if equipped with oil pressure gauge) Back To Top Conversion Parts Off Road Solutions offers 3 different 3.
Parts that cannot be found on either vehicle are required to do a conversion properly, otherwise it would not be a.

I have felt for some time that the current craze for crossovers, while certainly good, has put the traditional off-road-oriented SUV on the back burner in terms of importance.
Anyone who thinks this truck (not a car) rides rough or doesn't handle well is nuts! It rides like a dream, and with the Automatic Traction Control AND Vehicle Stability System I have no worries about handling.
My friend and I decided to sit inside the FJ at the show, and were quickly surprised by all of the above lapses in judgement, that are uncharacteristic Toyota.
The fact that the front doors have to be opened to allow the rear doors to be used makes it a moot point anyway.
It's frustrating as an FJ owner to see guys like ``Bob'' who take issue with a vehicle they haven’t driven.
Fits in my garage better - now I'll have room for that tablesaw? I'll admit that I am a poser who will never take it off-roading, but I was faced with a choice of purchasing another supercab truck, a 4-door truck, or an SUV, and this has everything I would want or need and in a nice quality package.
If the car doesn't suit your needs, then don't buy it! But why knock it? As an owner I can say there is one thing about it that I don't like and will probably need time to get used to.
When you go off-road you'll want to lock the center dif (not the rear), which is the same as what you do with the selectable 4WD.
The 4L is a lot better than the Jeep's one but Toyota should be considering selling a BJ Cruiser with the inline 4,2 L turbo diesel.
Yes, there is a huge blind spot, get over it! The giant side mirror more then compensates, that took about 3 seconds to get used to.
I see way too many styling (and marketing!) concessions here in a vehicle that's supposed to be all about function.
The point I'm making here—and couple of you seem to miss—is this vehicle could have been designed without the blind spots, and still be just as good off road (and much better on road), and be just as rugged.
Still, I know there'll be a bunch of people who select 4WD to use on the Interstate and then after a hundred miles down the road will be calling a wrecker and be faced with a $$$$ repair bill.
And as far as the Xterra and Hummer H3 go, I'd trade Toyota's reliability for two extra doors that only my friends will have to deal with.

On one hand I love the fact that the hardcore off-road customer is now getting an opportunity to buy some new state-of-art equipment from one of the world's leading off-road vehicle manufacturers.
I recently got my Voodoo blue FJ and love it! This is my first Toyota, and I really notice a difference between this and my previous Fords.
After seeing the FJ at the NY autoshow, I was excited that Toyota had finally put some spice into their SUV market.
Use your mirrors and turn your head and look! Heck, I can't count all the times I've nearly been run off the road by idiots driving vehicles made of nothing but glass.
The absolutely gargantuan C-pillar on this vehicle, and porthole-sized rear quarter window, coupled with the huge rear spare tire must have set an all-time low record for poor rearward visibility.
" I pity an FJ driver when he/she has to look over their shoulder to see if there are any vehicles coming up on their right.
While we primarily use the vehicle for short journeys to the grocery store or the beach (we live in Brooklyn with good public transportation), the car has been more than suitable.
Well folks, I've tried getting in and out of the FJ's rear several times; give me a real 4-door vehicle (like the Xterra) any day of the week!.
Straightline - Toyota FJ Cruiser rant-'n-rave
A second problem is this vehicle requires premium gas! You know it's going to get lousy mileage, so why rub salt into the wound by requiring premium? Besides that, premium gas may be harder to find if you happen to be using this vehicle as it was intended—like out in the boonies.
The little things like three wiper blades and the oil filter on top of the engine show that Toyota really thought this one through.
Any complaints from owners who have taken there vehicle off-road? I have heard that their are limitations to the atrac system.
You all seem to say blind spots are the biggest issue? Hello! Have you seen the massive mirrors in this vehicle? If you are not comfortable driving it, get blind spot mirrors.
Keep that in mind when we're talking about creature comforts as well as it's off-road capability since both seem to be sticking points with many.
Go buy a yuppy car!!! The C-pillar is there to prevent the vehicle from crushing your little skull during a roll-over.
I suspect many new FJ owners, I'm a guy who used to own a pretty Spartan vehicle.
But I agree that if you're not used to having to use - and adjust - the side mirrors to cover the blind spots then you're going to have trouble.
"This is an Off-Road vehicle" I have not purchased one yet, but I'm seeing complaints about visibility and no sunroofs.
I am looking for an Off-road rig to replace my demolished truck that I just happen to roll in March.
Is it just me, or does every SUV on the road look like it came from the same mold!?!? The FJ is so unique, I've gotten stares and compliments from every one, except of course from CARMANIAC555, who I envision in some out dated GM, Chevy, Dodge somthing or other eye sore!.
As someone who has had 5 previous SUV's ranging from a '90 Nissan Pathfinder to a 2001 BMW X5, I find the FJ to be an excellent vehicle.
The A-Track works well and I recommand it to people who has less experience or competence for off-road driving.
The engine seeems decent on paper, but feels like like a dog pulling a donkey on the road, only louder.
I'm sure that Toyota weighed the comfort of the door mounted seatbelts against the convenience when people are entering and exiting the rear seats.
I came to this vehicle because it was in the mid-$20ks and had everything I wanted --- suicide doors, blind spots and all.
The TOYOTA FJ CRUISER is a blend of some very good ideas, and some very bad ideas.

The Toyota Jeep BJ’s first production year was solely dedicated to the National Police Reserve Force.
This particular vehicle was used as a logging truck in the town of Wakayama City Japan, just south of Tokyo.

You can read more about this interesting vehicle in the new 50th Anniversary Land Cruiser book, see page 403.
This first year was extremely successful and soon Toyota was taking orders from the Forest and Agricultural Agency and from Electric Power companies.
They ordered a cab chassis from Toyota and it was sent to Gifu Body Company to be converted with a hard cab and a pick up body.
The Toyota Jeep BJ was introduced to the National Police Reserve Force for their procurement project, but it was rejected.
The National Police Reserve Force was so impressed that it adopted the BJ as their patrol car, and two years later large scale production for the Toyota Jeep began.
This prototype was called the Toyota Jeep, and since it used a B-Type engine with a Jeep model it was known as the BJ.
