In other words, you don't need this unless you have a system with an IGP integrated graphics chipset.
The AGP support in the ATI driver also has problems with this chipset - it might work for you, it might not.
What this does is override the chipset ID autodetection mechanism, which is normally how the type of card you have is determined.
This option enables AGP support in the kernel, which is usually a good thing to have :) Device drivers -> Character Devices -> (pick the correct AGP chipset option from the list, depending on your motherboard): ENABLED OR MODULE.

This will hurt ATI’s business somewhat as about 30% of ATI’s chipset business is covered by the Intel platform due to strong onboard graphics features.
It’s going to be a kick ass platform and we were lucky enough to get some photos of DFI’s latest revision of their LANPARTY nForce 590 SLI motherboard which is by no means finished by it due to be released for sale around the end of August this year.

From AMD's perspective, the deal makes sense because it would address a weak spot in the company's lineup: the lack of a complete CPU and chipset solution like Intel has.
It would also help AMD in the enthusiast market, as ATI's dual-card Crossfire setup is not supported on the new Intel 965 chipset.
Buying ATI will eventually free AMD from its current reliance on companies such as VIA for chipsets, as the combined company could churn out chipsets tailored for AMD systems.
