I would ask any mother to check their childs shoes when they get home and if you are in ANY doubt go back and get them double checked.
I always seem to get told they don't have a lot of stock and when they bring out what option of shoes what are left none of of them I would have picked in the first place.
The member of staff we dealt with was very polite but only measure the length and width of Freya's foot and the shoes they had didn't fit very well.
When I had one child I found this acceptable to pay but having two toddlers now it's expensive to buy two pairs of shoes in one go (which believe me always seems to be the way!) I agree with other reviews as well about not being able to buy summer shoes in summer and being told they are starting to stock up on winter shoes which believe me is madness when there is two months of summer left.
""Don't deserve their good name""
I always thought that Clarks was THE place to buy children's shoes, so we took Arabella there to buy her first pair.
I do rate the Clarks service and feel 100% happy to visit them again for his next fitting (probably within the next month if his growth rate's anything to go by!)

I have also just purchased shoes for my four year old and they are now a month old - and I have to say for the quality is terrible! The stitching is all coming undone and the colour is fading where he scraps them, despite applying copious amounts of the polish I also bought! Where has the Clarke's quality gone? Very disappointed in the shoes.
If the shoes don't fit then quality is bad and the service is awful both for the managers attitude but also the fact that they did not care that my daughter missed out on the 1st shoe photo, even when I have told them each time I have been back.
On our next visit, I was told that included in the pack was a monthly draw to win free shoes for a year.
He was the centre of attention as it was the first shoes! We had the photo and the big walk around the shop - so I cannot fault the staff at all.
However our stock is appauling - I am constanly struggling to find shoes I,D and H fittings sometimes its even hard to find them in E and G fittings which are very common.
Megan's not very girly, and all the shoes seem to be pink and sparkly, or with butterflies on them! There are so many more styles in the boys range, in all coloures and styles too.
The lady had all the time in the world to make sure we got the right shoes for her feet and she made me feel like a valued customer.
1st shop none in stock, next shop still none in stock in her size so they sold me a pair of 3's they told me that some shoes come up bigger than others.
"Inconsistent Results"
Until recently i had great faith in Clarks' however we had my son measured 3 times over a month as we knew he was due a new pair of shoes The first measurement was a 9H the second a 9.
Clarks train every one of their childrens employees with training courses and practical training while on the job.
From February this year I have tried three times unsuccessfully to get shoes for her and her little sister (now 2 1/2 yrs).
"a good service, shame about the stock levels"
I find Clarks are always really helpful with checking shoe sizes but always come across the problem of finding a H size in my home town.
I could not let her wear any shoes and all she wanted to do was walk everywhere, which led to a very unhappy little girl.
Georgia is a girly girl so pink was the obvious choice for us! We tried various styles but ended up with a beautiful pair of dolly-style shoes with pretty stitching on the top.
"So many wrong fittings"
For a compnay who supposidly prides themselves on the care of young feet by fitting them correclty I would hate to buy shoes from a company that doesn't.
sell me some more sandals and some more canvass shoes" But they now only have winter stock despite it being July.
"Good fit, terrible shoes!"
Well, Clarks shoes are good at fitting but christ, they have a terrible fashion sense.
"Clarks Shoes - Great if you have a son"
I purchased Megan's first pair of shoes from Clarks when she was 13 months, as she really needed a good pair of walking shoes.
I took her in to get some boots I explained to the fitter and she asked me to bring her in again with the shoes because she still measured an 8D and the shoes should still fit her.
"Good fit, terrible shoes!"
For me, the shoes fit perfectly but there designs are horrible.
"Clarks Over-rated"
I have used Clarks ever since my first daughter was small (she's now 5 1/2).
I went to my local Clark's for my daughters first pair of shoes and bizarrely the childs section was upstairs! I wasn't impressed leaving my buggy by the front door.
However, this did not prevent them selling me various poorly fitted shoes, the worst being G width!
Their response to the extra space in the shoe as a result of the larger width was to pack it out with insoles.
She also reassured me that they allowed plenty of space for her feet to grow which was great to hear as she'd been bare foot/ in soft soles for so long, I was worried about heavier shoes constricting the movement of her feet.
"use your own judgement"
We used the Clarks fitting service in our local Mothercare for about 18 months, and even though a few friends commented that her feet looked a bit bulgy, I still believed they were the right size, because they'd been fitted by a Clarks fitter.
Practical advice and great quality shoes

The service at Clarks was excellent and the sales advisor was really helpful especially as a lot of the shoes did not fit my daughter.
And now my eldest is at school full time and needs school shoes don't even get me started on that!
All in all I find it a depressing shopping day taking the kids to get a new pair of shoes because im paying for shoes I don't like and they cost a fortune!

Over that 18 months we probably bought about 6-8 pairs of shoes boots, which were always fitted by the same assistant, until one day they didn't have much in stock so I took Millie over the road where she was measured by a Hush Puppies fitter, and amazingly came out as a G width, compared with the D fitting she'd always been measured as at Clarks.
I really liked the shoes she tried on and particularly liked the desert boots! The pair we eventually bought were called Twinkle Twirl and Jess seemed very eager to show them off.
Anyway, I took her back, they fitted the shoes, could not find a problem and promptly said the style probably didn't suit, confiscated them and fitted a new pair, different style, for free!!!
So all in all, 4 months wear and a free pair of shoes aint bad, and it shows that they do care about the health of her feet.
All I can say, is if you use Clarks, just be a bit on the cautious side, use your own judgement, and don't be talked into buying something that doesn't seem 100% right.
Also i dont like the fact that all of their first shoes for girls are Pink

They also asked where her last pair of shoes were from, measured her feet and watched her walk in the shoes.
Belle insisted on wearing them home but when I took them off I found both shoes still had paper stuffed into the ends.
Anyway, after returning the third pair of shoes due to blistering I discovered that Clarks don't make shoes with a width smaller that F.
I enjoyed the whole 'Clarks experience' - it's easy to see why they're at the top of their game when it comes to fitting and both Georgia and I are delighted with her sparkly new shoes!.
"fantastic service"
I have always taken my kids to Clarks and have found the service second to none.
My family all have discount cards in there so i get 33% off the RRP but even still, i have only ever bought one pair from there and that was Hollie's first pair of soft soled shoes called crawlers.
I feel Clarks shoes are good value for money and I will probably visit Clarks again when she's ready for her next pair.
?
We bought our daughters 1st pair of shoes from Clarks but we were not given the 1st shoes pack n photo.
"Clarks Shoes"
I have taken Ryan to 2 different places that do Clarks shoes and one was a well know shop and thenother wasmy local shop.
Megan's feet have gone from a 2 and a half to a Four in 6 months! It seems as soon as she's had a new pair, she's grown out of them! Can anyone recommend any other childrens shoe shops that offer the same, trusted measuring service, but without the prices and of Clarks?
Member review by sarah - Mother of Megan-19 months - review date 8 August 2006.
Overall, I could not fault the service and I liked the fact they gave us a photo and information to take home with us - a lovely memento of her first shoes.
They went and got other shoe from the stock but they were different colours and did not match (ones out were dirty).
"too expensive!"
I have been buying shoes from clarks since my first daughter was 1 and was shocked that one pair of shoes for a one year old cost.
"Tried and trusted"
Clarks have been my daughters supplier and fitter since birth (she is only small and her feet do not grow very fast, so I get away with 2 pairs a year!!).
Because i live in a relatively small town Clarks are the only kids shoe shop unless you drive about 25 miles to the nearest shopping mall but i will say that i will be doing that from now on when i can find another shoe provider.
I have taken photos and emailed them to clarks and they have sent me a voucher but I don't think I will be spending it as I just don't seem to have any success in their shop.
Also my boy needed new sandals last Summer as he grew out of his old ones really quickly but could I get any? No, - they need to stock summer shoes much later into the summer months.
On one occasion I waited almost 2 hours for the fitting only to be asked by a very young assistant what size she was! Each time I have visited Clarks they can only find at most 3 styles of shoe in my children's sizes and on my last visit they had only 1 pair of shoes for the 2yr old and one pair of boots for the 5yr old.
Good if your a boy but the little girls shoes are horrid! They always seem to fit her though and i have had a few pairs from there but to get a nice fashionable pair, you have to wait months on end for them and then pay a stupid price.
Clarks' are also very expensive - at around a pair for not very stylish shoes whish i'm lucky if he gets 6-8 weeks out of! I was told that they don't stock many shoes in a H fitting anyway so i'm offered the next half size up in a G! seems pointless getting him measured!

(They don't stock summer footware in the summer)
They had none her size (3 n half), nor in 4 and then tried to sell us a pair of 4 and halfs which were left in the sale.

I was looking forward to getting Georgia her first pair of shoes.
I have been into places like M&S and the shoe prices are the same as Clarks (and from family experience lasts a lot less than Clarks shoes) ! If there are any problem with Clarks shoes, we deal with complaints to a high level!! kerry (19yrs old)

I work in a clarks branch and im shocked to read what some people thought about the service we provide.
"Service good stock terrible"
had my son measured up for shoes this weekend, only 8 weeks after his last fitting, he'd grown a whole shoe size.

He was measured, by a very helpful assistant, as he would have been at one of their regular stores, and the shoes, which are lovely and definitely DON'T look cheap, cost just.
"clarks shoe service"
i find clarks service to vary greatly on store, my local store has a couple of staff who have in the past and continue to, try and sell me any shoe, fitted well or not.
More for the earthy type mothers than the fashionable mum! I have never found a pair of shoes in there that i liked for my daughter as they seem to be so old fashioned.
Also someone said we dont make shoes thinner than an F fitting which isn't true, we have shoes down to a D fitting.
im extremaly happy with there shoes and service and will be using them for a long time to come

"Nice in Theory!"
I have just bought shoes for my one year old and we had a great service in the shop.
She started toddling just before Christmas and soft-soles just weren't cutting it anymore! I've heard good things about Clarks and was keen to try out their popular service.
5g and the third an 8G!!! Even when he's been measured on the electronic machine the measurements have been wrong! My son has a wide foot (H fitting) so i can't buy him non fitted shoes.
"A helpful, thorough service"
Clarks are renowned for their fitting service and they took their time to measure Jacob's feet throughly before recommending shoes.
I felt that this was disgusting and while the shoes look good, I fail to see the point in bying shoes that are the wrong size and that where 1 shoe of a pair is discoloured.
"Clark's factory shop"
I bought my son a lovely pair of cruising shoes at the Clark's Factory Shop on Seven Sisters Road in London.
Babyworld : Source for baby and pregnancy information in the UK thousands of pages, be part of the babyworld community
they have recently introduced a reward scheme where we get a pair of shoes half price after buying 6 pairs (wich as you can imagine with 4 children comes around quite quickly)
i find there range to be great for younger children and theres tones of choice to fit every personality but for my poor 10 year old girl whos in a size 4 theres hardly anything and im not putting her in womens shoes as there mostly healed.
She has had the odd pair of shoes which have been fitted incorrectly but they always recheck and change them for a style that does not hurt her feet and is comfortable.
So I asked the assistant if he could ring the Bluewater branch to see if they had any that would fit in stock and was told that the Manager (of Lakeside store) would not allow them to ring and that we would have to go to Bluewater and find out for ourselves if they fitted.
I also read in one persons review that they didn't want their daughter in adult shoes but I work on the adults floor aswell and we can measure a childs feet and fit adult shoes for them if they find nothing suitable on the childrens floor.
This is why I always take them to Clarks!

The next day I took her to a Clarks shop in the next town, and they confirmed that she was a G fitting - how bad did I feel, that she'd been having her feet squashed into those D fittings for so long!!!
Since then we have had a few incidents of poor measuring and poor fitting, but Clarks are the most convenient stores for us, so we do use them.
Occasionally I have used Start-rite too, and agree that they do offer a good service and better shoes (more choice, nicer styles, better quality).
The way Clarks prepare for the end of summer leaves nothing to be desired either, Back to School is our most lucrative time of year and getting all the school stock in as soon as possible is important to ensure we make as much money for it.
"Great service"
I have just bought my daughter's second pair of shoes have had no problems with clarks at all.
My son is 3 and my daughter just over 1 and since Jay has had shoes I have had to return 6 pairs of his as they were either too small and left bad marks where they dug in or too large and he could barely walk.
"the only place i nowgo for shoes"
back in the early days of motherhood i didnt see the point in going to clarks, id rather buy something elsewhere and save money.
Some of the shoes weren't that great on his feet (they seem to be quite narrow) but we got there in the end and ended up with a smart pair of navy shoes with velcro fastenings (a godsend if your child likes undoing laces).
